Con la conducción de la rapera de origen dominicano Cardi B, se llevaron a cabo en la noche de ayer los American Music Awards. Desde el Microsoft Theater en la ciudad de Los Ángeles se realizaron los premios que así como otros eventos de su tipo, han regresado este año con eventos presenciales, tras haber superado un duro año 2020 marcado por la pandemia.
Bruno Mars y Anderson .Paak tuvieron a su cargo la apertura de los premios, interpretando su éxito «Smoking Out the Window», que han creado con su proyecto en conjunto Silk Sonic. El dueto también estuvo compitiendo en las categorías de «Mejor Video Musical» por «Leave the Door Open», «Mejor Duo o Grupo de género Pop» y canción favorita de RandB por «Leave the Door Open», ganando finalmente la estatuilla en esta postulación.
Otras aplaudidas presentaciones de la noche, estuvieron a cargo de Olivia Rodrigo, una de las máximas nominadas en este entrega. Postulada en siete categorías diferentes, Rodrigo ha sido una de las grandes revelaciones de este año. En escena interpretó con toque acústico su nuevo éxito «Traitor».
Carrie Underwood junto con Jason Aldean, el grupo italiano Maneskin, recientes ganadores del Festival Eurovisión, Jennifer López con su nueva canción «On my Way» y Chloe Bailey, también formaron parte del espectáculo.
Si hablamos de altas expectativas, una de las actuaciones más esperadas fue la de BTS y Coldplay. El grupo de K Pop y la banda británica se unieron en escena, para entregar su canción «My Universe». De hecho, BTS se consideran como los grandes ganadores de esta edición, conquistando las estatuillas de cada categoría en las que estuvieron nominados destacadas como algunas de las más importantes de la premiación. Los surcoreanos ganaron como «Artista del Año», «Duo o Grupo Favorito de Pop» y «Canción del Año» por «Butter».
Celebrando el concepto de las «Boy Band», también se unieron en escena dos de las bandas masculinas más exitosas de la historia del pop. New Kids on the Block y New Edition ofrecieron un inolvidable espectáculo que unió generaciones, y permitió recordar el gran legado que dejaron para que otros jóvenes siguieran sus pasos en la industria.
